Hi Michael
I'm related to Flt Sgt Frank Stanley Jones who was one of the crew of the Lancaster that your relative Sgt R Lane died in on the night of 29th July 1944. He was my mother's first cousin. My mother is still going strong but it is my grandmother (now 95) who remembers Stanley the most clearly as he was a few years younger than her.
Although I've looked for information on Stanley and his crew mates periodically in the past it is only in the last few days that I've made a concerted effort to find out more. It seems that, compared to many Lancaster crews, there is a fair bit known about them largely because of the survival of Sgt Harvell I guess.Until yesterday I think its true to say that as a family we knew very little about Stanley's life in the RAF let alone the circumstances of his last mission. That there should even be a painting of their plane being shot down, didn't even occur to us! Its amazing how powerful the internet can be.
I've a few scans of letters and a newspaper clipping that I'd be happy to send you if you could send me your email address.Somewhere at my parents house we've a photo of the graves in Neufchateau which was taken shortly after the burial as well as an OTU photo which presumably shows all the crew and not just Stanley. If there's anything that you have relating to the crew that you would be willing to share I'd be really pleased to receive it.
Regards
Chris
