Hi Iva,
Sorry to be a while getting back to this post.I was in Virginia for a few weeks and couldn't seem to get my laptop working properly.
Am so interested in the Tilman you listed on your post.My Tilman Jones was born in 1840 in GA.I have been thinking that the Tilman you named who was listed on the Elbert Co., GA Federal Census was not the same Tilman. The reason I've been resisting that is because my Tilman Jones is on the 1870 Wilkinson Co., GA census, along with his wife, several of their children and children from her first marriage.
I suppose that is possible, as I've had that situation twice in the last 40+ years since I've been working on genealogy, but not likely: someone being named twice on the same census. It's possible that Tilman was working on his father's {James} farm and was listed in that location as well as with his wife/family in another county.I will keep searching.I hope that this is correct!I have no idea, otherwise, who his father might have been.
Yes Tilman was in Texas by 1878. Could you tell me about the Martha Wilkerson that you mentioned in relation to Tilman?I do have some Wilkersons in this line, but not with Tilman directly. My Tilman married a Margaret L. Sanders {daughter of A. P. Sanders and Margaret Louisa Lemmonds} who married an Alex Wilkerson.
Thanks for your help!
