LOG HOME LEE COUNTY VA
1st post
I am researching a piece of real estate located in the white shoals / beech grove community of Rose Hill, VA 24281. The house property was believed to have been sold by Mr. Parrott to Mr. Melvin O. Combs who is believed to have lived there in 1896 when a family member Millard Combs was killed in a shootout and buried in the cemetery. I am desperately trying to find any old pictures of the log home that still stand there today. There is a cemetery on the same property that has King, Bledsoe, Parrots, Combs, Garretts, and many others. People believed to own the property at one time or another are: Jones, Garrett, Coldiron, Combs, and Parrott. Any information will be greatly appreciated.

Upon doing more research, i have dicoved deeds that transfer proerty from Melboure(instead of melvin) O. Combs from a John Parrott in 1884. Judging from the desciption of the proerty and its location I am going to assume for now that this is my link. AT FIRST I belive this to be the house of John Parrott Husband of Ruth Parrott whos will is on file in lee county.
Deed Book Page 83:
Will of Ruth Parrott. Probated Feb 13, 1798. Property to be divided between legatees agreeable to Will of John Parrott, deceased, and to daughters Sally and Mourning Parrott.
Exexutor: James Smith.
Witnesses: P. Fulkerson, Joshua Ewing, Cowan and James Smith
In the name of God Amen--I Ruth Parrot of the County of Lee being very sick and in a low condition but of perfect mind and memory do constitute and apoint this my last will and testament in maner and form following Vis: First its my desire after my death that the Estate shall be divided amongst the legatees agreeable to the will of John Parrot Decd., and if there appears to be an overpluss that may be Leagally coming to myself I will and bequeath it to my Daughters Sally and Mourning Parrot to be Equally divided between them and its also my desire that James Smith be my Executor. Signed Ruth Parrott
signed and sealed before us by her order:
P. Fulkerson; Ely Cowen, his mark; John Ewing; James Smith
However, its unlikley that a man dead in 1798 as told in the above will of his widow( i am understanding this right?)could have conveyed land almost a hundred years later to Melbourne Combs. So unles he had a son or grandson named john i dont know wherwe this will lead. I really need help with a family tree for the decendents of John and Ruth Parrott
I not sure where im going yet but with your help maybe i can get a little closer.
there is a picture of this old house when Emmy Jones owned it in the Bicentennial History Of Lee County Virginia 1972-1992Book on page# 143 lower left corner
