I think this Lewis Jones might be the father of my Mary Jones (b.abt. 1830). She married Capt. John Williams, master mariner.
LEWIS JONES, a mariner from Holyhead, Anglesey, Wales. In his daughter's baptismal record (December 6, 1830 - Anne Maria Jones, mother Ellen) it says that he is formerly of the Harlequin, which I think refers to a ship.
I found this entry for a Lewis Jones on the Welsh Mariners site:
Surname Forename Place of Birth Year of Birth CC or Cs No. Died/Pens. Reg.Ticket Capacities County of Birth Kew Ref.
JONES Lewis Holyhead 1809 62347 mt54 AGY 124/20
135138. m/28718/Leinster/1865-71.
I don't think from this entry that he was a master mariner, but rather a mate. Is the reference to Leinster a ship?
Does anyone have further information on this Lewis JONES (b.1808-9)?
