Joncas/Jonkis, Why can't I find any in MI censuses?

My Great, Great Grandfather, Napoleon (Louis) Joncas had 7 children: Ellen, Louise, Deliphine, Melvina, Henry, Nelson, and Ray Ward Jonkis. I can't find any of them other than Melvina (1910 MI) in any census. Is there a different spelling of their name?
