Thank you so much for the offer! My ancestor was Ephraim Smith, said to be descended from the Smiths of Bucks Co., PA, but I haven't been able to prove that. Many Quakers went from Bucks Co. to Union Co. before and after the revolution. Some, even though they were Quakers, served in the Rev. War.I don't think Ephraim did, but have never actually checked the records in D.A.R.His wife, Rebecca (said to be Addington), joined the Cane Creek MM. in 1791 with daughters Bully (Beulah), Mary, and Letitia (my ancestor).I don't know why Ephraim was not listed, unless he joined one of the other local meetings. He lived near Johns Creek, and the Addingtons lived near Frenchmens Creek, which are both in the lower, western part of the county, near the Enoree.Another reason to think the Addingtons were related. The Bobos lived nearby also, and I have seen their names on papers with Ephraim. Many of the Quakers started leaving for Ohio and Indiana in the late 1700s and early 1800s.Apparently Ephraim left about 1810 because Letitia married in Butler/Preble Co. Ohio in 1811.Some of the Smiths lived in the Spartanburg area, and also possibly Laurens County.I have to check that area also.
My two main problems are the parents of Ephraim (proof) and the maiden name of his wife, Rebecca (proof).
If there is anything you can do to help, I will try to repay you with research here in the D.A.R. Library.
