JOHNSTONE: DUMFRIESSHIRE, QUEBEC, ONTARIO
John JOHNSTONE was born in Cummertrees Parish, Dumfriesshire on 11
Jan. 1792. His parents were George JOHNSTONE and Mary RAE. John first
married Margaret RADCLIFFE ca. 1810, presumably in Dumfries. Margaret was
born 14 Oct. 1791 in Dumfries; her parents were Anthony RADCLIFFE and
Elizabeth DALRYMPLE. John and Maragret had three children in Scotland :
Margaret Suart born 6 Mar. 1810 in Dumfries and died 3 June 1896 in
Bowmanville, Durham Co., ON, CAN., m. John RANKIN; Mary; and James.
John JOHNSTONE moved to first to Quebec, CAN, then to Prescott
Co., ON, CAN sometime between 1810 and 1820. We do not know whether Margaret
RADCLIFFE JOHNSTONE died in Scotland or went to Canada with John. We know
their children went to Canada.
John second married Martha GOUDIE ca. 1820 in Quebec, CAN. She was
born 1797/1801 in Chatham Twp., Quebec, CAN and died 26 Nov. 1890 in E.
Hawkesbury Twp., Prescott Co., CAN. Among their children were my wife's
g-grandfather, Alexander JOHNSTONE, born 29 Jan. 1821, Chatham Twp., Quebec,
CAN.
I would like to hear from anyone that has a connection to or knows
about this family line.
