Dear J. Hutter,
Dr. James Johnstone of Charles Co. Maryland is my ancestor.
His second wife was Mary Hanson. I am descended from one of his son George Johnston Sr. who was a prominent lawyer in Alexandria, VA. LDS Salt Lake City has a book "Stapp and Allied Families", compiled by Jennie F. Downing Crow. Part 2 Johnston & Related Families, states that Dr. James Johnstone, an adherent of Lord Baltimore settled in Maryland in the latter part of the 17th century. There are some errors in the book, but most of it I have found documented in other books.
I would be very interested in sharing information with you.
I realize your post is dated 2005, but hopefully you're still checking this website.
