It's great that you've found as far back as you have on your families in Co. Fermanagh. Were your Johnstons Church of Ireland? They sound as if they were. I don't see a connection to any of my lines in Co. Monaghan, but will keep your ancestors' names in my research files.
Do you know anything further about Susan Elizabeth Armstrong who married the first George Johnston (1790-1854) and died about 1854 herself? (I'm also interested in Armstrongs, though mine were mainly in southeast Co. Tyrone.) Might their pre-1809 marriage be found in parish church records? Surviving Drumkeeran Church of Ireland records, for instance, go back to 1801. That northern part of Co. Fermanagh borders on Co. Tyrone and Co. Donegal -- two other places to look for more Johnston & Armstrong records.
Also have you ever corresponded with Treacy Breen? She's been a great help to many researchers in Co. Fermanagh.
