Johnston family PA to NC to KY, 1700-1800's`
I am seeking a JOHNSTON family who possibly came from Ireland to Pennsylvania about the time of the Revolutionary War, and then into Guilford Co., NC, by 1790 and later Logan Co., KY by 1820.
My ancestor Thomas MAJOR names a grandaughter Eleanor JOHNSTON in his will in 1789 in Guilford Co., NC.It is unknown who her father was. The MAJOR(S) family was from Ireland to Pennsylvania then NC.One of Thomas' daughters (Mary? or Eleanor?) married a JOHNSTON.
The 1790 census for Guilford Co., NC,lists Andrew Johnston, Benjamin Johnston, James Johnston, Joshua Johnston, Jere. Johnston. It also lists a known son-in-law of Thomas Major, that being Robert Peasly (Paisley) who married Margaret Major.Robert later moved his family to Logan Co., KY, where they appear in the 1820 census there, along with a James J. Johnston as their neighbor. Are these two men brothers-in-law, having come from Guilford Co., NC, to Logan Co., KY?
Any help is appreciated.
