Brothers Alex, John and William came to America, first John and William sailing together, Alex following on a later date.William stayed in Sherbrooke, Quebec, Canada and later died there.John came immediately on arrival to Cook County, Illinois and was joined by Alex where both were farmers.Margaret Gibson Johnston left Glasgow, Scotland in September 1871, sailing on the ship "Manitoba" and arrived at Point Levis, Quebec fifteen days later in October 1871.She spent one day in the port city then came to Cook County and kept house for her two brothers until her marriage in 1874.Alex and John both left Illinois about five years after their arrival in this country and moved to Ottawa County, Kansas.Margaret Gibson Johnston, with her husband and family, then moved to near Tescott, Kansas in January 1887 and two months later to their rented farm home in the nearby Table Rock District, southeast of Beverly, Kansas.
