I am excited to find a relative! Can we correspond directly?I have heard from a "cousin" in the south who had lots of information about the Johnstons, all the way back to Charlemagne!!I would love to have a copy of that letter from James to John.John named one of his sons James who died at a young age and that is who I am decended from. The name James has stayed with our family, on my line anyway, until our generation. My Uncle James Johnston is 80 years old and doing well but there are no James Johnstons after that. My brother is Thomas James Johnston.I don't think anyone knew the significance of that name.If my brothers would ever have children they could carry this on. I have lots of male cousins but not a "James" child in site.
I'm glad to hear there were sisters. My info only mentions the two brothers and of course William and Isabel. My dad and I tried to find Williams grave at Haddington Abbey but were unable to because of how long ago it was.I will be glad to give you any information I have and give you the e-mail address of the man who I have corresponded with.He has lots of info but I will tell you that he has some questions about Isabel Maitland being the mother. It's comnplicated but I will explain.Let me know if we can correspond. I'm in Iowa where JamesJefferson Johnston settled and was the first post master and first Justice of the peace in West Bend Iowa.I live in Harlan.
