Pat,
You are in luck, below is a copy of an e-mail I received last year:Charles,
Here are some names and dates:
My grandmother:Mary Ida Johnston b. Feb. 27, 1887 in Washington County,d. May 2, 1963, married Joseph Arthur Cecil May 18, 1909.
My great grandfather:John Robert (Jack) Johnston b. Sept. 23, 1844 in Washington County, d. Jan. 24, 1916, married Narcissus Crabtree January 21, 1878.
My great great grandfather:Thomas Wilson Johnston b. 1817 in Washington County, d. 1904, married Rose Anne Dailey Oct. 4, 1842, married Eliza Catherine Graves also.
My great great great grandfather:Matthew Johnston b. abt 1780 in North Carolina, married Nancy (maybe Ann) Spalding July 26, 1808 in Nelson County.
This is where the family stops, although my sister gave me Robert and Elizabeth Johnston as Matthew's parents.I am not sure where she found this.
On the 1850 Census of Washington County, Matthew Johnston is listed as a 70 year old born in NC and living with his son, Thomas Wilson Johnston at the home place. His wife is listed as Nancy Spalding age 80 also living at the home place.
I have a few lateral lines. Most of the Johnsons/Johnstons were entertwined with the Ballards and Cecils/Cissells.
I hope this helps.I am hoping that some Johnstons will show up at the reunion that have stayed in the Washington and Marion County areas that may have had more info passed down to them.
