Johnston/Steele/Ainslie, Ontario Canada
I am researching a Johnston/ Johnson family who settled in Blanshard Twp, Perth County from Brant County about 1852-1855.
Ory Pearson JOHNSTON(b.1803 married 1820,) owned a blacksmith shop at Prospect
Hill in 1855 In the 1861 and 1871, she lived with her son William Porter Johnston in Blandshard Twp and moved with him to W. Nissouri for the 1881 census. In the 1891 census she was living with her daughter and son in law Elizabeth and Edward Long (who was treasurer at the time)in St. Marys and Ory
died later the same year. I'm unable to find where she is buried.Elizabeth and
Edward LONG were in Blanshard by 1847 and stayed in St. Marys. They had several children.
Her son William Porter JOHNSTON (b. abt 1835 Mount Pleasant Brantford Twp, Brant Co.) lived with her and died in 1885 in
London township. The 1881 census in West Nissouri lists his family as wife Elizabeth
(b. abt 1852) and sons David b.1870, William b. 1871and Henry P. b1874. -Unable to trace the family after 1881 census.
Orry's other daughter was Clarissa J. Johnston (b.abt 1823) She was married 3
times.
1. Thomas Ainslie in 1837 d. bef 1845, 2 children:
(A)Elizabeth AINSLIE b. 1840 who married James Barber BISBEE of LondonTwp.
(B)David AINSLIE b.abt 1841- enumerated in 1852 in both Blanshard and
Brantford. Unable to trace after this date.
2. William Steele d. bef 1852 One child:(A) William Edward STEELE b. abt 1846 married Mary Courney in Stratford, moved to Armour Twp in Parry Sound Districtand had 1 son.
3.John KEE m. 1866 in Blansahrd Twp.
Clarissa lived in Blanshard in 1871 census with husband John KEE and son William
Edward STEELE. They moved to Armour Twp ParrySound District. She dies in 1903 at her daughter's in London twp.
Orry had another son Thomas JOHNSTON b. abt1828 who was listed with the
LONG family in Blanshard in the 1852 census.
His wife's name was Jessie and they had 1 son John Allen Johnston. Thomas and Jessie separated. Thomas was in Armour Twp in 1881 and I can't track him after that. His son John Allen lived with his grandmother Ory and then with his mother in St. Marys after Ory died.
Does anyone connect with these families?
