Hi Brett!
I don't see a connection, but the JOHNSTON families in Georgia at that time all were excited about the Annandale thing. They assumed (as we all do) that all the Johnstons must have somehow come from the famous Lord William. I have gone back a little farther than you have on my James JOHNSTON family. He was born in 1761.From his associates in Georgia (he got there in 1784), I have theorized that he came from Isle of Wight Co., VA.Nearly all of his associates in Georgia had I.of W. names. The Mitchell family was in Albemarle Parish Register 'way back.I think (just theories, no proof)my James came from the "Wm. Johnston of Isle of Wight Co., VA," family in the book done by Hugh and Coy Johnston.
If not, they certainly thought they did.
Our rich cousin (married well)gave a diamond ring to a lady I knew, just because she was a Johnston "kinsman"!They were "clannish"
and honored that surname. The Batt/Batte faily were also prominent in VA.I think it was Brunswick Co., as well as I remember.
Both my James Johnston, Jr. and his closest friend in Pulaski/Twiggs/Hawkinsville area, James JOHNSON, Sr., seem to have come from VA. There was an Isaac in the family that I think my James could have come from.If you can find that book in your Library, check it to see what you think.
I hope your Isaac in SC is a brother to my James, because I don't know what county in SC to look for his family in.All I know is Camden Dist. that included 7 later counties.
York, Chester, Lancaster, Fairfield, Richland,Claremont and Clarendon (Sumter Dist.) I do not know the father of either one of these Jameses. Sr. was born in 1753 - eight years older than mine.
Maybe we can find out something by sharing.
