I. SAM JOHNSON is a son of Hiram and Jane S. Johnson. His father was a native of Connecticut, and came to Wyoming county in 1857. I. Same Johnson was born October 24th, 1840, in Centerfield, Ontario Co., NY. He began the study of law with Colonel Thayer in May, 1860, and in Aug., 1862, enlisted in the 136th N.Y. volunteers; was promoted to first lieutenant Feb. 7th, 1863, and discharged Jan. 5th, 1874, on account of physical disability. In May, 1864, he was admitted to the bar, and except ten years spent in Arcade, NY, has practiced his profession in Warsaw, Wyoming Co., NY ever since. He was married May 5th, 1865, to Mary E., daughter of Horace and Polly McFarlin, of Twinsburgh, Ohio. Mr. Johnson has held the office of trustee in Arcade village. He was elected district attorney in 1876, and re-elected in 1879 by 1,978 majority, the largest ever given in the county.
