James Johnson is my 3rd great-grandfather. He was in Spartanburg, SC until sometime after 1840 when he moved to Chichasaw Co. MS. He is believed to have been born about 1790. He is not listed on the 1850 census and his wife is listed in the household of their son Daniel Merrill Johnson so I assume he died before 1850. Many family trees have his parents as Phillip Johnson and Rebecca Durham. I can find no connection even though they were both in Spartanburg at the same time.
