Hugh, Barnabas, Daniel, Jane, and John Johnston/Johnson - Wythe County, Virginia
After reviewing the Revolutionary War Pension records for William Sulcer, I have been able to piece the following information together:
1. William Sulcer married Jane Johnston in Wythe County, Virginia in 1793.
2. In 1842, Jane Johnston Sulcer states William died in 1837 and she is unable to provide a marriage certificate so as to receive a pension. She states, in order to prove her marriage to William, that she does have family members living to verify the marriage.
3. Jane Johnston Sulcer states she has a brother, Barnabas Johnston, living in Pike County, Ky....this Barnabas Johnston does give testimony from Pike County, Ky in 1846.
4. Jane Johnston Sulcer states she has two other brothers, John and Hugh Johnston, and the last anyone knew, these two brothers moved to Hardin County, Ky....neither brother is located to give testimony.
5. Jane Johnston Sulcer states she has a nephew Hugh Johnston (no parent for Hugh listed) who lives in Washington Co., Virginia....This Hugh Johnston testifies in 1847 that he was born in 1794 and is the nephew of Jane Johnston Sulcer, that his uncle Hugh Johnston was in Hardin County, Ky at one time and that Barnabas is in Pike County, Ky.
6. Jane Johnston Sulcer states she has a nephew George H. Johnston)who is the son of her deceased brother Daniel of Wythe County, Virginia. This George H. is living in Monroe County, Indiana in 1846 at the time of his testimony and states he is 48 year old.
In summary, Jane, Hugh, Barnabas, Daniel, and John are siblings; they have at least 2 nephews - Hugh and George H. who testify that Jane was married to William Sulcer.
I have seached for the parents of Hugh Johnston/Johnson (my direct line) for many years....so now I have several new leads.Any information on this line would be greatly appreciated....I was amazed at the amount of information I was able to get off of the pension records!!
Thank you,
