Willie C. Johnson, Jr. 'Sonny,' 60, 1806 Lamons Lane,
entered into rest on Sunday, May 3, 2009.
He was born February 17, 1949, to the proud parents,
Willie C. and the late Edna Mae Johnson in Chattanooga,
TN. He was educated in the Chattanooga Public Schools. He
accepted Christ at an early age and united with the Early
Church of God in Christ Galations, where he was under the
leadership of his father. He united in holy matrimony to
Gwenevere Cook, out of that union came one son, Kennatta L.
Cook.
In 1966, Willie C. Johnson, Jr. 'Sonny' enlisted into the
United Stated Marine Corp. and served faithfully for eight
years, also serving in the Vietnam War. He later united in
holy matrimony to Carolyn Johnson, out of that union one
son was born, Shannon Johnson. Later moving to Johnson
City, TN, uniting with Friendship Baptist Church, where he
served faithfully until his health began to fail. He served
on the cleaning committee and male chorus.
Willie C. Johnson, Jr. was preceded in death by his mother,
Edna Mae Johnson; and brother Isaiah Johnson.
Willie C. Johnson, Jr. 'Sonny' leaves to cherish his
memories, his wife, Carolyn Johnson; two loving sons,
Kennatta Cook (Alethea Cook) Johnson and Shannon Johnson;
two grandchildren, Kennisha and Kaleb Cook; a devoted and
loving father, Rev. Willie C. Johnson; four sisters,
Rebecca Culpepper of Atlanta, GA, Minister Maedrina Foster,
Chattanooga, TN, Minister Mary Walker of Scottsboro, AL,
and Patricia Kellog (Frank) of Chattanooga, TN; three
brothers, Howard Johnson (Erline) of Chattanooga, TN,
Wallace Johnson of Scottsboro, AL, Nathaniel Johnson of
Chattanooga, TN; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m.,
Wednesday, May 6, 2009, at the church prior to the services.
Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m., Wednesday, May 6,
2009, at Friendship Baptist Church, 522 West Main St. with
Dr. C. H. Charlton officiating.
Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m, Thursday, May 7,
2009, at the V.A. National Cemetery, Mountain Home.
