In the 1850 Census of Spartanburg County, S.C. there is a household #3116 composed of Philip Johnson, 79, his wife Rebecca, 75, and a teenaged boy, G.P., 14, probably a grandson. Next door is a #3117 household headed by Lura / Laura Vaughn, probably a daughter of Philip and Rebecca, and probably the widow of William H. Vaughn. In a transcribed copy of that census in the holdings of the Spartanburg County Library someone has written in parentheses beside Rebecca's name (Durham), possibly an indication of her maiden name. In the 1840 census of Spartanburg County Philip Johnson is enumerated as head of a household composed only of himself and and his wife; nearby is the household of Durham Johnson, and also the household of William H. Vaughn (which seems to be the household headed in 1850 by Laura Vaughn). My guess is that Durham Johnson and Laura Vaughn were the children of Philip and Rebecca Durham Johnson. Laura named one of her daughters Rebecca, possibly in honor of her mother. I have nothing more definite. Just suggesting a line you might care to research.
