I was interested in your post as I noted that the wife of Anthony Johnson was Lavinia Redding Johnson.I'm assuming the Redding was either he maiden name or the name of one of her ancestors. The reason this interested me is that my ancestor was named Redding Johnson, born about 1815 in North Carolina, died about 1880 in Escambia County, FL. Do you know where your Anthony Johnson had any family member with a Redding Johnson?Any information on a Redding -Johnson connections in your file could be helpful.
I have been told that Redding Johnson adopted two Indian children named Charles Henry and Mary Johnson.I'm assuming that he was a white man, but I can't be certain of this.I also wondered why he would have adopted Indian children. It may have been to keep them safe while many Indians were sent to live on reservations out west, during the Trail of Tears, still there would have been someconnection to the an Indian family I believe.According to the 1850 Escambia Co., FL Census Redding Johnson wae age 35, born in NC and he was married to a Charlotte, age 35, born in NC.No children are listed at that time
His son, Charles Henry Johnson, born Jan. 8, 1851 in FL is my line.Charles Henry Johnson married Arieandna A. "Arie" Respess, born 1859 in GA. I have been trying to find any information about him and whether he was truly was Native American or any information on his parents.
Thanks, Gloria
