Hi, Thought we might get back to genealogy. I found this book in a used book shop. Soft cover and really beat up. Bettie Stirling Carothers of Lutherville, Maryland compiled the 1776 Census Records of the state of Maryland She did this in 1983. The following is the Johns records that were included in the census return The source documentation is in the Hall of Records in Annapolis, MD. All wording and spelling is from the actual records. Census enumerators were not consistent in their reports. For general information: Elizabeth Town became Hagerstown in 1814. Also the records of Montgomery County and Washington County will be found in Frederick County since they were not formed until after this census was taken: Anne Arundel County; All Hallows Parish Susannah Johns (Quarter) 5 Black Males; 2 Black women; 5 Black Children; 7 taxable Anne Arundel County; St. James Parish (by order of Samuel Rawlings) Mary Johns 3 White women; 2 White boys; 9 negro men; 7 negro women; 8 negro boys; 11 negro girls Deptdord Hundred; Baltimore, MD, Taken on the 23rd day of August, 1776 by William Aisquich Aquillar Johns Lower Potomac Hundred; taken by Levin Magruder and completed on August 22, 1776 Thomas Johns, age 39; and Richard Johns, age 1 Sarah Johns, age 25; and Mary Johns, age 3 Harford County; Deer Creek, Lower Hundred Taken by William Fisher, Jr. Skipwith Johns, age 28 with Hannah, age 23 and Ann McClure (Hired Girl), age 26 Harford County, Susquehannah Hundred Taken by Charles Gilbert Richard Johns, age 43 Nathaniel Johns, age 41; Elizabeth, age 33; Ann, age, 13; Ruth, age 12; Frances, age 10; Cassandrew, age 8; Elizabeth, age 3; and William, age 2.
