There were Johns in GA before 1800. My records show a John Johns, Jr
marrying Elizabeth Tuggle 20 Dec 1799, signed by John Johns (SR?) from Wilkes
Co. Papers 1773-1783.
The Lurany Johns that I think must've been "hatched by crickets in the
woodpile"was born in N. Georgia (somewhere) in Jan of 1816 and on the 1880
census, she states her father was born in GA and mother in TN. That's the
only clues I've got about her origins.
There are Johns in Wilkes Co and Columbia Co GA by 1795, if not before. IF
Lurany was correct about where her father was born, the family would've been
in GA by 1790-1795 at least.

Yes there were Johns in Wilkes County, Georgia as early as 1790. I sent an e-
mail to the group with the information I had taken from the tax lists but I
guess it got lost. Here is what I found on Johns found in NE Georgia in the
late 1700's. In fact, a Jacob P. JOHN got a land grant in Wilkes in 1787.
