My grandfather (technically my step-grandfather, but the only one I ever knew), was named Leander Johann. His father was John Johann (Americanized; I believe he was born Johann Johann). The other Germans in town called him Zwiefel Johann or "twice" John. (My German is rudimentary at best, so I'm not sure of the exact adjective, but I think that's how Grandpa pronounced it.) This was in the small town of Genesee, Latah County, Idaho. I believe Grandpa's family came from the Wisconsin area to Idaho; I don't know where in Germany they came from. There are still Johann's in the Genesee area, but most of the old folks are all gone now.
