Hi Ed,
Sorry in taking so long to get back to the forum to reply to your e-mail. My Jobson information is very sketchy.More a problem of not being able to devote the time to it at the moment. Sarah Elizabeth Jobson (1862-1917) was the daughter of Robert Jobson,(or was it William?). My records are in storage right now so I cannot check. He was married to a Jane Errington, her mother. I have the Errington line back to the mid 1700s but nothing more on the Jobson side except the census information for 1881. There were a number of Jobson families in and around Newcastle. She was born in Birtley, Northumberland. I have tried to follow several Jobson lines but without a lot of success and I have found them in various places across the north of England. Still, I have to do some more work in that area to pin things down. My experience with actual certificates prove that going backwards methodically, produces the best results. The birth certificate names the parents, ages, occupationsand residences. That should lead back to marriage certificates which provide the grandfathers' names. Death certificates also provide detailed information after 1854. To find a marriage certificate in the British Index, find the name and parish of the husband, then find the corresponding entry for the wife's maiden name in the same quarter. When you find the two names with the same registration number BINGO! you generally have the right certificate as it seldom happens that two people with the corresponding first and last names marry two other people with corresponding first and last names in the same quarter of the year. So, prove me wrong! It has always worked well for me.
GOOD LUCK!
