Cheryl-

I have a small clue that might help. In my NJ records, I have a "William Jobes" who married a "Sarah Bowker" in Burlington County in 1813. ("Burlington County New Jersey Marriages" - Woodbury,NJ: The Gloucester County Historical Society, 1977, page 125.)

1) The oldest child of the William in Columbiana County OH was born between 1815-1820. 2) The William who married in 1813 is not mentioned again in my Burlington NJ records, implying he may not have stayed in the Burlington area long. Taken together, these two items tend to support the theory that the William in Columbiana was originally from Burlington, NJ but after marrying and having a few children he left and went to Ohio.

I'd recommend tracking down William in the 1850 U.S. Census of Columbiana County if you haven't already tried that. If you can show through the census or other records that William was from NJ or the name of William's wife was "Sarah" that would provide a NJ-OH link for the Columbiana William. That wouldn't "prove" that William was Joseph's son, but since you know Joseph was from NJ it would make William the person you'd really want to focus further research on.

Good luck!

-Doug
