I had posted a message here long ago with the information that my grandfather, William Jiles was born in Georgia...
I do not know wether this information is correct or not as I have found in the SSDI that he applied for his SS# in Mississippi. He was supposedly an orphan, along with his sister, Elizabeth (or Ellen, I'm not sure)and the sister was supposed to have been in Sunnyland Mental hospital, which was in Georgia or Florida. I am told by my "aunt", Clarice Holt Palmer of Florida, that my grandfather was raised by her family, the Holts. He served in the Army and died of TB in Asheville, NC. He was born on June 2, 1908 and died in December 1963 and is buried in Oakdale Cementary in Hendersonville in the veterans section. He was married to a woman in Ocala, Florida who I only remember being called "Dink" (she and my grandmother were great friends) and they had one daughter, Ann. He later married my grandmother, Jessie Leona Merrell. They lived in NC and also had one daughter, Nancy Ruth Jiles.
Neither my mother, nor I have any idea if he had more brothers and sisters, who his parents were or anything. It is almost like it is some big family secret that no one is allowed to know, our questions are always deflected in some way.
I am in the process of writing to the SSA for a photocopy of his application for a SS card hoping that his parents names will be there. I will post this info if and when I get it... in the meantime, if anyone has any info or links to sources I could use, it would be greatly appreciated.
