Family of Etta Blumenthal Nogar
I’m looking for the family of Etta Blumenthal.
Specifically the ships they arrived on, naturalization papers, social security numbers/applications, so I can find where they came from in Russia and trace the family. All the info I have is below....sorry it’s a bit long.
Etta Blumenthal, b. 15 Apr 1883 in Guipitzich(??), Russia; died 15 Mar 1973 in Long Beach, Nassau Co., NY.Immigrated abt Jul/Aug 1901, on SS Hamburg out of Hamburg into NY (according to naturalization papers, but I can’t find the ship).
Married Nathan Nagor/Nogar/Nager (b abt 1880 Mogilev, Belarus, Russia) 1903 in NY City. Nathan immigrated abt 1900-1903. Children, all born in Bronx, NY, were: Samuel, Fanny, William (married Dorothy Unknown from England) & Lillian (married Alexander/Albert Spritzer aka Al Post).
Etta’s father was Benjamin Blumenthal b. abt 1853 Russia; immigrated abt 1899.Etta’s mother was Rosie Sirotkin, that’s about all I know about her.All members of the family were listed in censuses as Russian Hebrew, but I don’t know if they were practicing Jews or attended Synagogue.
I have Etta & Nathan together in the Bronx, NY, in the 1905, 1910, 1920, 1925, & 1930 censuses.I have Etta in the 1940 census alone; says she was widowed. Etta was naturalized5 Mar 1945.She died Mar 1973 in Long Beach, Nassau Co., NY.Never found Nathan’s death record.Know he was a paperhanger & painter. No SS record that I can find for him.
Etta had three sisters:Anna, Sadie and Jenny.
Sister Anna, in 1900 Census (Manhattan, NY), said she was born inJul 1871 in Russia.Immigrated in 1886.Married Morris/Moritz Freidmann/Freedman about 1891 (based on birth of first son Joseph b 24 Sep 1892, Manhattan).Other children were Abram (Jul 1894, Manhattan) and Hyman/Herman (Jan 1896).Anna listed as widow in 1900, 1910, 1915, &1920 censuses.Morris must have died between last son Hyman’s birth 1896 and 1900 census.Found no info on Morris other than birth record for ‘Joe Friedman’ that listed parents as Anna Blomenthol and Morris Friedman. No record of Anna after 1930, except that she was living in the Bronx, NY, in 1945.
Sister Sadie was born abt 1892 in Russia; married in 1910 in NY to Lasar Polonsky (aka Louis Post) from Lyubar, Ukraine, Russia.Louis Polonsky immigrated in 1905, and was naturalized 14 May 1914; his naturalization included Sadie, but I haven’t been able to find the actual Declaration or Petition, just the index reference (Naturalization 12 May 1914, Louis Polonsky, 346 East 173rd St., Bronx, Vol 143, Pg 52) .Louis owned a button factory (Victoria Button Works).
Sister Jenny was born abt 1888 in Russia.Immigrated abt 1903.In the 1905 and 1910 censuses, she was living with widowed sister Anna. Can’t find her after that; probably married.
I keep puzzling over the arrival dates of Etta and her family.Don't know when Etta’s mother Rosie came.Sister Anna came in 1886 (age 15?).Father Benjamin came in 1899-1900 (age 40).Etta, 1901 (age 17) ;Sister Sadie, 1902 (age 10) ;Sister Jenny, 1903 (age 15?).Surely some of them must have travelled together or with someone. If I could find any oftheir ships, I could probably find where they came from. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Does anyone know where Guipitzich, Russia, is?Etta's place of origin according to Naturalization papers.
