I suspect that Benjamin did not come to the USA, but that Solomon did, since usually these name changes took place at the time they came into the US. But it seems that all obituary sites I can find require you to be a member, and I'm steering clear of anything that costs money.

Nobody has ever mentioned being a Levite at service, but sometimes those adoptions of names like Levin/Levine at Ellis Island are not any sign of real Levite status. (My wife happens also to have been born Levin, though actually her father used Levine, but tells me they were "Ellis Island Levites" -- adopting the surname because their family name in Polish Yiddish was pronounced like the English word "loafer" and someone told them that this meant a lazy man.
