Hi Bob. Thanks for answering my new query. Yes, at least a couple other persons have agreed with me that the theory about my BREBURDA ancestors is a plausable one. Can I prove it? No, I can't. It just seems strange to me that nothing can be found about this family before the early 1800s. A Breburda family seemingly just showed up in Prague one day about that time and no one in the families whom I've ever been able to contact seems to know where they came from or the origin of their name. It isn't German and it isn't precisely Czech, although "Burda" can be a Czech name. But I also know there are some Jews who have the name Burda! A family tree which one person sent to me only lists the oldest ancestor as far back as his birth year of 1862, in Prague. There is nothing about his parents; however, recently I've been able to access a Web site for residents of Prague back then and believe I have found the names of the parents of this 1862 Breburda. And I believe I have finally found the names of my own great-grandmother Maria Breburda Sima/Schima/Shima's parents as well. Family members seem to have lived in Prague and some small towns near that city. The family tree which I mentioned has some members who seem to have been Jewish. Some of the names of the persons who married into the family can be Jewish, although most can also be German names, it's true. The name ZEDEK stands out, however. Have been told it's Hebrew. Another member is associated with Hebrew University in Jerusalem. No, I don't know if they practiced any Jewish rituals. Will have to look into this more, of course, and I have tried to contact some persons with the Pressburger surname. So far not much luck with that, but I know some Jewish Pressburgs or Pressburgers did live in Prague about the time of the 1793 census where the name "Brespurger" was found but no "Breburda." Yes, I agree I wouldn't be considered Jewish. The Breburda connection is on my father's side of the family and I believe one is only considered to be Jewish if your mother was Jewish, correct? But I am very interested in Jewish heritage and do feel a connection with you all. Again, thanks.
