Capt. Moses Chase, son of Daniel & Sarah (March) Chase was born at Newbury, Essex Co, MA Colony on March 16, 1727.When five years old, he moved with his parents to Sutton, Worcester Co, MA Colony where was raised and continued to live until 1750, when he was 23 years old and he went with his eldest brother, Judge Samuel Chase, to build the town of Cornish, Sullivan Co, NH Colony out of the widerness..
Capt. Moses then returned to Sutton where he was married April 15, 1752 to Hannah Brown, born on Nov. 15, 1735 a dau of Jonas & Hannah (Munroe) Brown of Sutton & Lexington.Capt. Moses & Hannah (Brown) Chase had 14 children: the first 6 born at Sutton, the last 8 born at Cornish, where they had settled by 1765.He died there at the age of 72 on Oct. 18, 1799 & she died there at the age of 76 on Jan. 16, 1812.

1. Daniel Chase, b. Mar. 15, 1753; md (1) Mehitable Kimball - 9 ch; md (2) Mrs. Mary (Estabrook) Hall, wid of Moody Hall - no known ch; md (3) Mary May - no known ch; md (4) Mrs. Mary C. (Kimball) Daniels, wid of John Daniels - no known ch; d. Aug. 13, 1841 at Cornish, NH where he was known as Esq. Daniel Chase.
2. John Chase, b. Oct. 4, 1755; md (1) Martha Cotton - 3 ch; md (2) Louisa Joslyn - 11 ch; d. Dec. 14, 1844 at Cornish, NH where he became a church deacon an was known as Dea. John Chase.
3. Hannah Chase, b. Feb. 7, 1758; md Daniel Kimball, founder of Kimball Union Academy at Meriden [now eastern part of Plainfield in Sullivan Co, near Cornish NH] in 1813, who died in 1817 - no known ch.In 1839, Hannah gave a large endowment for the establishment of the female department of the academy.Hannah d. June 17, 1847 at Cornish, NH [or Meriden?].
4. Amos Chase, b. May 19, 1760; md (1) Rebecca Hart - no known ch; md (2) Joanna Boylston Lanman - 12 ch b. at South Farms, Litchfield, CT; d. Dec. 23, 1849 at Centerville, Crawford Co, PA.Amos graduated at Dartmouth College 1780.Rev. Amos Chase was ordained June 1787, and for 26 yrs. he was pastor of South Farms, adjoing parish of his friend, Dr. Lyman Beecher the father of Henry Ward Beecher & Harriet (Beecher) Stowe. In 1815, Rev. Amos Chase established churches at Oil Creek & Centerville in PA, where he was pastor until 1830.
5. Nathum C. Chase, b. Oct. 9, 1762; md Deborah Freeman - 4 ch; d. June 27, 1827 at Cornish, NH.
6. Judith Chase, b. Nov. 26, 1764; md Capt. Sylvanus Bryant - 10 ch; d. Oct. 2, 1811 at Cornish, NH.
7. Caleb M. Chase, b. Sep. 11, 1767; md Elizabeth Deming - 9 ch; d. Sep. 1, 1856 at Williamstown, Orange Co, VT.Caleb was commissioned as a Captain in the militia and was known as Capt. Caleb M. Chase.
8. Susan [Susannah?] Chase, b. Aug. 4, 1769; d. Oct. 6, 1769 at Cornish, NH.
*9. Moody Chase [Sr], b. Oct. 10, 1770; md (1) Rebecca Chapman - 2 ch; md (2) Rhoda Cook - 1 ch; md (3) Lucy Farnum [Farnham] - 10 ch; d. Apr. 4, 1846 at Macomb, McDonough Co, IL.Moody's occupation was most likely farming, but generally a farmer of that day also learned a trade or two.He eventually became my 3rd grt grandfather, and his family will be the subject of a later separate post.
10. Moses Chase [Jr], b. Nov. 29, 1772; md (1) Elizabeth "Betty" Brown - no known ch; md (2) Deborah Bull - 9 ch; d. Aug. 27, 1861 at Lyndon, Caledonia Co, VT.Moses graduated at Dartmouth College 1797 and he was an attorney at law in both Maine & Vermont.
11. Susan [Susannah?] Chase [twin of Clement], b. July 4, 1776; d. Oct. 20, 1777 at Cornish, NH.
12. Clement Chase [twin of Susan or Susannah], b. July 4, 1776; md (1) Lucy Murray - 8 ch; md (2) Olive Spaulding - 4 ch; md (3) Prudence Andrews - 4 ch; d. June 6, 1867 at Cornish, NH.Clement was listed in the 1850 Federal Census as a farmer at Cornish, and he had most likely learned a trade or two also.
[Note: Hannah (Brown) Chase's family members, on both her father's & her mother's sides, the Brown's& the Munroe's , had fought at the Battle of Lexington, where some of them were the first to die in the American Revolution.Her husband's Chase family members were equally patrioic & Hannah gave birth to twins on the very day that the Declaration of Independence was first read in public, marking the birth of the new nation of The United States of America.Not only did Clement share his birthday with the USA, but he lived to see the Union preserved thru the American Civil War, dying a couple of years later, just about a month shy of being 91 years old.]
Harvey Chase, b. Nov. 13, 1778; md Eunice Dana - 4 ch; d. Feb. 18, 1857 at Cornish, NH.Harvey was listed in the 1850 FC of Cornish as a Sawyer, but he was most likely a farmer also.
Sarah Chase, b Oct. 9, 1781; md Rev. John W. Lord - no known ch; d. April of 1860 at Hudson, Hillsborough Co, NH, according to the 1860 FC - Mortality Schedule.
[Note: Capt. Moses & Hannah (Brown) Chase had 14 children and at least 100 grandchildren & I have no idea how many descendents beyond the generation of their granchildren.I have only followed the desc's of their son Moody Chase, [Sr], my own 3rd grt. grandfather.]
