Hi Claire,
Thanks for your posting. I did a bit of checking and found your line of Jessops
from the 1861 to 1901 census. I am still not certain how our lines connect,
think it must be before both of our lines settled in Alverthorpe.
I believe I may have found the maiden name of your Grace Jessop, wife of
Benjamin, and mother of James Jessop.
The 1881 census for Alverthorpe cum Thornes is very interesting:
Grace Jessopheadwidow52b. Leeds
James Jessopsonsingle19b. Alverthorpe
Josephus Jessopsonsingle13b. Alverthorpe
Josephus Prattboarderwidower58b. Leeds
From the above it would follow that the Josephus Pratt cited may well be the
brother of Grace, making her maiden name Pratt.
The 1861 census for Alverthorpeis also telling:
Benjamin Jessopheadmarried29b. Ossett
GraceJessopwifemarried31b. Leeds
Elizabeth"daug.1b. Alverthorpe
Would appear from the above that Benjamin and Grace (poss. nee Pratt) were
married ca. 1860.
Hope this helps,
Jim Turner
