Hi Jael, Is this Thomas Jernigan the first or the second listed in the deed below? In reading your post and considering the date of 1684 I would assume this is Thomas the second since you note that Thomas III was born about 1695. 21 Oct. 1684 - VA Pat. Bk 7, p. 412. James Howard 300 acs. Up. Par. of Nanzemond at head of Capt. John Mason in the W’n br. Adj. Richard Sanders; John Wallis & Thomas Gornigan (Jarnigan). Granted to Richard Sanders 10 July 1680, deserted & now granted by order &c. Trans. of 6 pers. My research is regarding the John Mason above and Thomas Mason of Nansemond. Since so many records were destroyed for Nansemond I've been researching those folks around the Masons and the land descriptions. It appears the above lands ended up in Isle of Wight.
