Mr. Butler, Thanks for your reply about JW Jerkins. I do have some pictures and civil war letters written between Eliza and Reason. Most of them are from the east Tennessee area while he was guarding RR bridges such as at Loudon (Tennessee River) and Strawberry Planes (Holston River).
There is also a letter written as he was looking out of a window on main street in Kingston,Tn. Carters Station is also another address, I think that it is around Elizabethan. Most of the mail Eliza received and sent was posted from Morrison Mills, Fla. My father took me there a few years ago to visit the mill site ruins. As a boy he would take corn by mule and wagon and watch the mill work and return with a portion of meal left for Mr.Morrison.
My Greadfather Bernice and Grandmother Sarah Barrington lived with Eliza A Rogers Jerkins and youngest daughter Ida C Jerkins Barrington and took care of them until they passed. Both buried in Ocwilla Baptist church cemetery.
My family inherited the Jerkins Barrington Farm and a large collection of Photos and Documents were placed in my trust. I am at present working to archive the material for preservation and also working on a better way to digitize the material so the originals will last longer.
My search continues for RW due to my grandfather's request.According to him the family always wanted to bring his body back to Fla. for burial.Due to the hardships at the time it was not possible, however my gfather believed the two soldiers who made their statement for Eliza's pension knew where he was at time of death. There should be some letters out there written in Dec 1864 or later that could shed light on my quest.
I am a school teacher of Engineering now but I still have a deep desire to study history and the part my family played that helped shape who we are. I only hope I am up to the task of telling the story that my ancestors charged me with. Any help and direction will be greatly appreciated.
