Hi, thanks for the response.I look forward to hearing your vitals on both the JEPSON and EASTMAN families. Here is what I have on a John JEPSON:
Descendants of John JEPSON
Generation No. 1
1.JOHN1 JEPSON was born 1610, and died 1687 in ,, MA, USA.He married (2) EMMA CODLINGTON.
Notes for JOHN JEPSON:
Sept 8, 2000:
I just recently received a copy of an unpublished book "Eastman Lineage", June 1956, by Harriet Eastman BARKER.Through, Joann BUSH, the granddaughter of Lois Eastman, who was the granddaughter of Catherine JIPSON or JEPSON.
Harriet BARKER's book has a bit on JIPSON and JEPSON family as follows:
JIPSON FAMILY by Norton W. JIPSON:
John JEPSON who was born 1610 (see deposition Suffolk Co Deeds 1655) birthplace and parentage unknown, died in 1687, was granted "a great lot at the Mount, for 3 heads, at the rate of 3 shillings an acre; upon the entrance of the platform or bounders thereof after surveying of it and that to be at the next towns meeting thereunto" (See book of Possessions p. 41).
He was a member of the first Church of Boston; was made a citizen of the towne in 1647, was by occupation a cordwainer; in 1670 was appointed sealer of leather, was fined for giving employment to John EVERSON, a man who had been blacklisted by the Colony. In 1676 was on a committee appointed by the general court to see that the law restricting the drinking of liquor be enforced.
He owned a piece of land 42 ft. wide and 155 feet long on the Mill Creek which ran from the Harbour near by upon the line of the present Blackstone St.
He deeded this lot to his son John in 1685 for a consideration of 80 pounds. He also owned other land in this vicinity on both sides of Mill Creek, his own homestead probably being located on N.E. side of the "Creek" and fronted on Middle St. (now Hanover St)
Mendon was largely settled by people from Braintre and Boston and John JEPSON had a 40 acre "house lot" there and lived there for a short time, the records stating that "The 24th of March 1664 Goodman JIPSON is received an inhabitant".He disposed of property there in 1673, but may have retained a portion of his land and probably owned land outside Boston as a deed given by his son Thomas in 1695 conveyed all right in his father's estate "laying and being in Boston or elsewhere".
The records of King Phillips War showing John GEPSON (sic) fought in the Garrison st Mendon in 1675 probaly refer to John JIPSON.He was married and had one child when he arrived in Boston. He married a second Emma widow of John CODLINGTON who died about 1700.He died in 1687.
