Dear Ardella,
You do not tell us your time frame or what else you know about Hans Jepsen. Please let me share two things I have just found.
Most of the Jepsens on the Ellis Island records are recorded(right or wrong)as Jepson so don't forget to try both spellings.
I have searched Ellis Island and determined that the Hans Jepsen I did find was not my grandfather so you are welcome to him. (He came on the ship Gellert on March 14, 1892 at 19 years of age, sailing from Hamburg, Germany. It states his place of residence was Nolding but I think it is supposed to be Kolding.)
try http://www.ellisisland.orghttp://www.ellisisland.org and you should find a Hans Jepsen or Hans Jepson and when you look above his name for a blue oblong you can click on the "ship's manifest" and find his name registered there with the country of origin as well as the destination and his age etc. Even the number of pieces of luggage and his room location.
If he came earlier than the Ellis Island records (1892)then you should join Rootsweb's Denmark List where you will find help from those in Denmark as well as the USA.
Just address an email to [email protected]
then write only the word SUBSCRIBE in the body of the letter. When you receive your first response you will find an FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)link at the bottom of the page. If you read it before you ask your first question you will save time. If you ever want to get off the list you simply send another email with the message UNSUBSCRIBE. No charges are involved and this is a group of unusually patient, helpful and experienced researchers.
