Hi Marc,

Mary Gilbert's parents are probably John Gilbert and Ann Cox(e),who emigrated from Warwickshire in 1791.Abijah Gilbert,John's brother,is the founder of Gilbertsville,Otsego County.Leigh Eckmair, the librarian/historian at the Gilbertsville Free Library, sent me some wonderful information on the Gilberts. If you go to the Gilbert site on genforum and search for "Otsego" or "Abijah",you will find a posting by Leigh and her e-mail address.
My family information has Mary descending from Sir Humphrey Gilbert but I have my doubts.

It seems that all of the Gensons have a similar story about Richard. His parents were loyalists and could very well have gone back to England. The Genson name is thought to be French and my family believed they were Huguenots and fled to England.

Silas and Mary's oldest son,Samuel Cox Genson,is my multi-great grandfather. He is considered to be the founder of Sherman,Mason Co.Michigan.(You probably know that his brothers John Richard and Silas Abijah also came to Michigan)

I look forward to hearing from you.

Marcia in Houston,Tx
