Alison.
My dad John Jenkinson (born Northenden 13/09/04)did quite a bit of research in the 1980's into our family history. I did help him in his quest, taking him to the Churce in Northenden to look for our ancestors there.
He did in fact pay for someone to do the research for him and despite the fact he was having trouble with his eyesight, he drew up 3 family trees. one myself and one each for my brother and sister.
I thought I had lost mine in a house move nearly ten years ago. It had been left the loft of our previous house and it was returned to me last year.
Until the mid to late 1800's most of the Jenkinsons' were Baptised or buried in Bowden. After that they seem to have moved to Northenden, I myself being born at Withington Hospital.
With regard to the earliest Jenkinson on the tree, this is Thomas who is buried at Bowden, he died in 1701 it would seem that nothing more is known about him.
He did however had four children only Baptism dates are available. Details are as follows: John 16/06/1681; Mary 22/03/1683; Jane 29/04/1690 & Richard 09/11/1690.
Given these dates and the fact that Thomas died in 1701 I would think that he was born in the 1650's / 60,s.
I hope this is of help, if you would like to see the family tree my Dad drew up please let me know. I now live in Birchwood, Warrington and so I,m not far away.
Howard Jenkinson.
