I am grasping at the wind and my head is sore from hitting the proverbial Genealogy Brick Wall, searching for those lost Jenkins I am the GG-Granddaughter of John S. Jenkins, born about 1828 in North Carolina. John S. Jenkins married Nancy M.(MNU) born about 1834 in South Carolina, I am decended from their daughter Margaret Emiline Jenkins who married Thomas Marion Ryan. John and Nancy had seven children: Margaret Emiline born 1854 married Thomas Marion Ryan, Sarah Adaline born 1856 married James T. Cobbs, Mary Melvina born 1859 married Abraham Ryan, Eliza born 1861 married Henry Johnson in 1876, Smith born 1864, Lydia born 1867, John W. born 1875 John S. Jenkins showed up in the Morgan County Alabama census in 1860 with his family. The last record we have of him is in 1880 Morgan Co. AL census. Many of his family went to Logan County, Arkansas. It is possible that he may have went there also after 1880 to be with his family, but we have been unable to find any evidence of him there. John S. Jenkins was connected to the Ryan, Cobbs, Basham, and Johnson families. John just appeared it seems in the 1860 census and then disappeared after the 1880 census. Since there is no complete 1890 census this makes it difficult to trace him. Anyone who might know anything on this Lost Jenkins family please contact me.
