Philip,
The Joel T. Jenkins Family was Chief - Jumping Bull of the Lakota Sioux.
Jesse Jenkins/Sitting Bull was his son and it was his daughter that married a man in KY; while my grandfather was attending Carlisle Indian School in PA abt 1885-1888.)I don't remember the name of his daughter and/or the name of her husband, at this time.)While the family was living in PA, they stayed on the Old George Philip Hollar place in Bedford Co., PA near Reading.
Martha "Patsey" Tooley was given to Joel T. Jenkins as a present by one of his braves that had traded 1-horse for her. She had her 1st child, my grandfather when she was 14-yrs old. She simply called him "William." She had 5-more children before she returned to civilization after 29 NOV 1864.
This Jenkins Family file was recorded in KY, for Jesse Jenkins daughter that got married in KY while the family was living in PA, attending Carlisle Indian School. So she would have family records there too.
He didn't know just what year that he was born. He looked at different Census Records that she had filled out over the course of her life. From the age that she gave on these census, he'd calculate her birthyear and add 14-yrs to that date to get his birthyear. From these different Census Records, his mother could of been born from 1826-1846. Thus, putting his birthyear from 1840-1860.
Patsey had 6-children that lived while living with Joel.
