I am not related to this family, but I have a book "Genealogy of Valentine Shirely and Related Famnilies" by Henry Shirley Rothrock, 1983.In the section on the McKnight-Mathers Family is the following:
"Elizabeth Catherine 'Caddie' Mathers, b. 8 May 1856 d. 21 Aug 1929 m. 12 May 1878 William P. Jenkins b. 12 Mar 1850 d. 23 Aug 1910.Their sons were Roscoe C. 'Rock' b. 1880, d 1957, m. Lucie Amerson b. 1882, d. 20 Jan 1970 (they had two daughters); Ralph M. Jenkins b. 21 Jun 1889 d. 26 Feb 1962 m. Margaret Porter b. 24 Jun 1880 living at Orleans 1983, dau. of Charles H. Porter (they had a son and a daughter)."
"William P. Jenkins II provided family information. The latter wrote that his grandfather, W.P. Jenkins, was born 8 miles west of Orleans and became a telegrapher. He patented a special railroad car to ship live poultry to distant makets, and formed a company in Chicago to exploit the invention. The first car was built in 1888.The company later merged with North American Car.His sons, Roscoe and Ralph, returned to Orleans in 1912, and built homes side by side, Roscoe engaging in farming and Ralph in banking. The brothers established the Jenkins Gun Club north of Orleans and were known nationally in trap-shooting circles.Ralph's son William P. II is also a shooter. He served in the Navy in WWII, later was a sales executive for Parrot-Williams Veneer Co., now lives at High Point, NC."
