Reply to your Genforum message - I don't know if we connect as my JENKINS in Meigs are not well researched. Here is what I have:
1850 – Census – Meigs County, Tennessee – family 343
JENKINS, James30 mwNC = brother?
Sarah36 fwNC = sister?
John*31 mwNC = brother?
* There is a John JENKINS m: Mary (WHALEY) – 24 Sep 1850 – Meigs County - Joseph G. JENKINS surety
HAUSER, Ebenezer25 mwTenn
Milly Ann25 fwTenn = is she a JENKINS ?
Sarah Ann4 fwTenn
Betsy Jane2 fwTenn
JENKINS, Joseph23 mwNC = Joseph G. JENKINS
This Joseph G. JENKINS is my gggrandfather who married Minerva McCORKLE.Here is that info:
Minerva (McCORKLE) JENKINS (017)
b. 25 May 1825(headstone)
(lived: in 1880 Dunklin County, Missouri census – not there in 1870)
d. 16 Jun 1884 (headstone)
bur: Four Mile Cemetery – Union Township - Dunklin County, Missouri
m: 24 Jan 1851 – Meigs County, Tennessee
Joseph G. JENKINS (016)
b. about 1827 – North Carolina (1850 Meigs County, Tennessee
census) but his tombstone infers born about 1811
d. 15 Apr 1879 -“age 68” (headstone)
bur: Four Mile Cemetery – Union Township - Dunklin County,
Missouri
The 1850 Meigs census for JENKINS shows a possible relationship with Joseph and the family above (James, Sarah and John). They are located just above Christenia McCORKLE and her three daughters, including Minerva, who would marry Joseph G. JENKINSone year later.Joseph G. JENKINS was a blacksmith. He is found in Meigs with his family in 1860 - he disappears in 1870 - he dies in 1879 but his widow is shown in 1880 in Dunklin County, Missouri - which is completely across Tennessee and in the bootheel of Missouri.
I also saw BLEVINS in your line. The McCORKLE are associated with BLEVINS in Meigs and in Sullivan Counties, Tennessee.
I am anxious to correspond with anyone researching JENKINS in Meigs - do you see anything interesting?
