Hi Effie, i was glad to receive your message. I agree, history is shameful and so are things today in our present life. I just try not to repeat it. From what i have found the Jenkins name came from Wales, England, a Quaker name. (Quakers, slaves and Indians).I am also part Indian, cherokee and Blackfoot. My Jenkins family also had a high Indian content. My Jenkins name is from Utahville, South Carolina and was a slavemaster's name. I am not ashamed of that either. Also, my great great grandmother was raped and kidnapped by a Blackfoot Indian on the other side of my family, I am not ashame of that (just try to handle my alcohol intake!!). I will enjoy the peace pipe with you and whether we are related or not we are all humans - the same. I am not race struck either, I know white Jenkins and black Jenkins families. No shame by either of us. It doesn't really matter where we came from but where we are going. (to an extent). I know we have the same curiousity though and that is why we are communicating now. I wish I could get a dollar each time I hear a "jenkins joke or the name on a tv show, etc. Our name is famous!! Okay, good chatting, keep in touch. I will followup if I find any other good info. have a great day. If you have other questions, feel free. My family were slaves, now I am a master! It is funny how life is, it is what you make it. I did not let history ruin my future - only better it. I am very proud of my complete heritgage of which I am not responsible for. Don't feel shame, even if your great grandfather that you knew was a master. What does that have to do with you unless you are following his footsteps. Keep your head up and be proud and keep in touch.
