Thank you for your reply concerning Rufus Jeffords. My grandmother was Emma Jeffords, who was born in Smithland, Kentucky 9/18/1901. Her father was John James Jeffords (b. 1854 in Missouri). He was the son of Rufus Jeffords (b. about 1825) and Elizabeth McGuire Jeffords (b. about 1826). I have been trying for years to make the link between Rufus and John Jeffords, the Revolutionary War veteran, who died in Smithland. Is your William the one who was married to Polly Gregory? Do you have documentation that Rufus is the son of William? If so, I would be very interested in it. I would be happy to share any information that I have if it would be helpful to you.

My grandmother was married to George Cox April 5, 1924. He had been married before and his first wife had died. His first wife was also a Jeffords. Her name was Mina Jeffords, and she was from the Poplar Bluff, Missouri area. Her father was Henry Jeffords and her grandfather was Council Jeffords. My grandfather always said that the two wives were about fourth or fifth cousins. I have not been able to confirm this though.

I am looking forward to exchanging information with you.

Cathy Stevenson
