Hi, Does anyone have any knowledge or proof of the Branch/Braunche ancestors being related to royalty? (This is President Thomas Jefferson's FATHER'S line backwards, not his mother's.) Supposedly if you trace the Branch/Braunche line backwards you can get to Hugh de Kevelioc, 3rd Earl of Chester (b. 1147), and to King Henry I. (Along the way, these names come up: Jennings, Bostock, Whetenhall, Arderne, Gruffydd ap Madog, de Audley, de Mainwaring, de Maschines, de Kevelioc, Maud FitzRobert, Robert de Caen, mistress, Henry I, Matilda/Maud of Flanders?, William the Conqueror?) Is this royalty connection true? Apparently, King Henry I's illegitimate son Robert de Caen (1st Earl of Gloucester/Chester?) was the half brother of Henry I's daughter Matilda. This means that this line is related to Henry I of England. Is this proven anywhere? If so, would this make the Branch line also related to Eleanor of Aquitaine, wife of Henry II? Also, related to William the Conqueror? What about related to Charlemagne? ----------------------------- (Here's a little more detail, fyi: One can go backwards from Pres. JEFFERSON to his FATHER Peter and his uncle Field Jefferson, back to Captain Thomas Jefferson, Jr. and wife Mary Field, back to Mary BRANCH (wife of Thomas Jefferson # 1), back to Christopher BRANCH, Jr. and probable wife Sarah Almond, back to Christopher BRANCH, Sr. and Mary Addie, back to Lionel BRANCH and Valentia Sparkes/Sparks, back to William BRANCH\BRAUNCHE and Catherine Jennings, back to Thomas Jennings and Alice Bright, etc. Do you know of a verified link to royalty, especially through the BRANCH line (which is Pres. Jefferson's FATHER'S line) ? (The librarian at Monticello did not know of a such a connection.) Thank you. Notify Administrator about this message?
