William Jayne and Oliver Cromwell
Dear Cousin Elizabeth,
There is one reference that I know of, other than documents generated by the family, in regard to William having been a Chaplain in Oliver Cromwell's army. It is "The Village Guidebook", which is published by the Three Village Historical Society in East Setauket,NY (pp 101-102).This book also gives a brief historical perspective on the rise and death of Cromwell and the restoration of the monarchy. The book relates this history to the settlement of the Setauket area and mentions William's arrival.
Unfortunately, there are no references or substantiation for William's association with Cromwell; the assertion is simply made with no supporting information.
This book is rather skimpy on info about William, but has lots of info on his descendants.
Regards and Best for the Holidays - Cousin Gary
P.S. I just discovered this website and am still finding my way aound it -I trust you will get this OK.
