Dear Cheryl,
I know it has been awhile since we corresponded but I have new findings on our Jaycox, Godfrey & Tainter lines from a Debbie Smith, here goes:
Sophia Jaycox is a Godfrey, daughter of Elisha Godfrey & Polly Barden.
Here is more inf. on the 13 children of Elisha Godfrey & Polly Barden of NY, Ohio & MI:
1.Betsey Godfrey m. a Shaw
2.Charles Godfrey
3.SophiaGodfrey Jaycox, mother of Henrietta and James.
4.Richard Godfrey whose daughter was Matie Drake
5.William whose children were Charles,Ada, Frank, Norton, and Albert
6.Rosetta died at 14
7.Rosina, died at 18
8.Berinthe, died in infancy
9.Russell, had one child, Mrs Grace Reid
10.Eldridge, died in the civil war
11.Pearletta had seven children
12.Pluma Godfrey Tarbell, had seven children
13.Harietta Godfrey Small had five children:Warner, Herbert, Henry, Homer and Boyd. All except Warner and Boyd died in infancy.Boyd eventually owned a men's clothing store in Lansing, MI. (1920's)
Don't know if you have all this information, or any that might be of interest to me...I don't know much about Elisha before he came to Leslie in 1836, though several of his children are in the census after that with their own families.

I have new inf. on my Polly/Mary Godfrey who was born on March 26th, 1804 in NY & m. Daniel Tainter b. 1797 to Hannah (Norton) & Benjamin Tainter.Hannah & Benjamin Tainter lived in Batavia, NY.Ben died in 1822 & Hannah in 1825.
In the 1820 Census there is a Meriam Godfrey listed on the same page as Benjamin Tainter, she is the widow of Thomas Godfrey who is the son of Richard Godfrey & Mary Newcomb. Also on the same page is Mary (Newcomb) Godfrey her mother-in-law.Both are widowed.
Richard Godfrey & Mary (Newcomb) Godfrey had 4 sons:Richard who married an Elizabeth Brownhill, Thomas m. "Mariam", Elisha who married Hannah Reynolds, & Newcomb who married a Lucinda.
It is likely that after Meriam Godfrey, widow of Thomas died & Ben & Hannah (Norton) Tainter died in Batavia, NY, their children moved to Ohio & MI.Jesse Taintor is in Ohio & he is grother of Daniel.
Polly, I believe is the daughter of Meriam & Thomas Godfrey as she named a daughter Mariam (spellings vary).
Also, Polly & Daniel Tainter married in Washtenaw County, MI on May 29th, 1832, then returned to Erie, Newstead, NY---then back to MI before Daniel Tainter died there in Jackson Co., MI in 1846.
Their children moved to Leslie, MI where Sarah LOUISE (Tainter) Jefferds lived with her family.
Note that Wm. Godfrey above, son of Elisha & Polly (Barden) Godfrey named a son "Norton", my Polly (Godfrey) & Daniel Tainter had a son Norton, who was born in 1845 & died in Jackson Co., MI in 1848, 2 years after his father.
There is a Tainter monument in Fifield Cemetery, near Jackson & close to Ingham Co., MI, where I believe, Daniel Tainter b. 1797-d.1847, Polly b. 1804-d.1861, Norton b. 1845-d. 1848, Mary Ann Tainter & Mariam Tainter who both died before 1870 are all buried.
It seems in the 1870 MI census online that there is a Henry Jaycox married to a "Clarissa" with a son James & a daughter, Henrietta. It should be Sophia, most likely an error, as there is a Clarissa Godfrey, also, but she married a Theron Faught (?).
So, I guess our hunches have paid off.
IF Richard Godfrey & Mary Newcomb are the grandparents of MY Polly Godfrey through their son Thomas, Richard or Newcomb we are descended from Wm. Brewter of the MAYFLOWER & Stephen HOPKINS of the Mayflower.
I have a book on our Godfrey family, but it only includes their brother. Elisha Godfrey who married Hannah Reynolds.
It is likely the brothers named sons after their brother Elisha, Richard & Thomas, etc.
Also, I believe that the Jaycox children's parents are John & Sara Jaycox.
