Thoma Jay.1617..Boston,Soffolk, Mass.
According to history books..the first settler to arrive in what is now Boston Mass. was the Rev.William Blackstone in 1623.He was joined by Purtians from England in 1630 and they then named the settlement Boston after their former home in Lincolnshire, England.
My question is..How did Thomas Jay get to this place when it was not granted a charter from the king until 1623. And in this days you didn't just take off for the New world without direct permission from the king. Was he or his parents part of the London Company or the Virginia or Plymouth Company, which had charters from King James 1 to colonize in the New World?. Was he a part of the Dutch settlement of New Amsterdam ?How did he get there 8 years before it was founded? More questions than answers so far.
