Jaynet, if he was killed in S.F., would not his death certificate be filed in S.F. Am unfamiliar with S.F. death cert., but maybe it might show more details about his mother and where she was from? Where was he buried? S.F., Oakland, Berkeley, Fresno --where? Perhaps where your father Jay was buried? Maybe you could locate the cemetary or funeral home and might get data from them? In Court Records at San Jose (and probably many courthouses in CA as well) I found book or books with deaths from 1900 (+/-) up into recent years, for everyone who died in CA, except during WWII years. Deaths of 1925 should be in there, showing which county would have d. certificate, and its number. Same info can be obtained from Sacramento, for a few dollars Surely, Berkeley Court Records of Vitals would have copy of this same book. I know next to nothing about getting recent Vital Reords but genealogy instruction books tell you where and how to check into that. Would Jay's wife be in a Ca Census for 1920 or 1922? What about the City Directory where Jay and she lived? Berkeley, Oakland, whatever? You would find City Directories in libraries, like that one in Oakland --I saw Oakland City Directories there (before moving out here). Depending on which of the spellings is her name, sounds like she was Fr. or maybe Lebanese or other Middle-eastern. But, too, some eastern Europe people have names sort of like that, don't they.
