To C. Lynne Packard:
Dear Lynne,
Thank you for posting on this forum.I have been looking for descendants of Dora I. Minton for several years. In 1999 I made my first trip to the Green River Knob on the Pulaski and Casey County, Kentucky dividing line attempting to see the land where my ancestors Elijah Osborn and his wife Mary Warren lived. In 2002 I found the grave of Dora I. Minton and her husband John C. Jasper in a cemetery in Mintonville, Kentucky. Dora I. Minton' mother was the grand daughter of my ancestor's Elijah Osborn and Mary Warren.
Elijah was the son of John Osborn and Elizabeth Claypool.Mary Warren was the daughter of James Warren.
The Children of Elijah Osborn and Mary Warren were:
1)Elizabeth Osborn(1804-1872) who married Travis D. Elliott and migrated to Montgomery County, Illinois
2) James Osborn (1806-1860) who married 1st to Anna Grantham, daughter of Reverend John Grantham; 2nd to Martha Kilpatrick; and 3rd to Lydia Ann Nichols.James went unmarried to Montgomery County, Illinois with his brother Levi

5)Mary Osborn (1811-1844) who married Perry Irving in Kentucky and migrated to Montgomery County, Illinois where both died young leaving their children as orphans raised by other family members.Irving, Illinois was named for Perry Irving.
6)Caswell Osborn (1815-1863) married Elizabeth Hammond on September 19, 1836 in Sommerset, PUlaski County, Kentucky
Their daughter Mary Margaret Osborn (1838-1875) married Abraham Price Minton on August 23, 1862 in Sommersett
7)Warren Osborn (1817-)married Martha Grantham daughter of Reverend John Grantham. They lived in Montgomery County, Illinois, but removed to Gentry County, Missouri. They had no issue, but raised the Irving orphans and other relatives.
8)Gilbert Osborn ((1819-1897) married Mary Ann Hammond (1821-1877) on October 23, 1840 in Sommerset, Pulaski, County, Kentucky (A daughter Sarah Jane Osborn (1841-1904)married Jacob Jasper on October 20 1853.)
9)Riley Osborn (1824-1899) married Sciotia Jane Muse (1826-1889) on December 15, 1845 at Sommerset, Pulaski County, Kentucky.Riley lived for a time in Montgomery County, Illinois, but went west into northwest Missouri finally dying in Pawnee County, Oklahoma on June 3, 1923.
10) Bailey Osborn (1813-1864) married Phoebe SandsBailey lived in Montgomery and Bond Counties in Illinois He married secondly in Montgomery County Illinois to ____Franklin but the marriage failed and he moved west into Indian Territory where he died. Some of his descendants were in Sangamon County Illinois in the 1880s and 1890s.
I share the Osborn and Claypool lineage with you.I have the Osborn lineage beyond Elijah as follows: John Osborn and Elizabeth Claypool; Jeremiah Osborn, Jr. of the South Branch of the South Fork of the Potomac River in western Virginia whose land was surveyed by George Washington and who mentions Jeremiah in his diary; Jeremiah Osborn, Sr. of Morristown, New Jersey, who gave testimony in the celebrated New Jersey law suite of Cooper vs Crane in 1740/41 as an 80 year old man; Stephen Osborne born in Ashford Kent and left a Will in New Jersey in 1698; ThomasOsborne and Mary Goatley immigrants to America from Ashford Kent England. They were in New Haven about 1635, then moved to East Hampton Long Island as founders; Jeremy Osborne of Ashford Kent; Thomas Osborne of Ashford Kent.
The Claypool lineage beyond Elizabeth Claypool is James Claypool III, James Claypoole II; James Claypoole who was a friend of William Penn and prominent in early Philadelphia. His father was John Claypoole and his grandfather was was Adam Claypoole.I have both the Osborn and Claypool lineage in detail with books and sources.
I hope that this helps you and encourages other descendants of Dora I. Minton and the descendants of Elijah Osborne and Mary Warren's children Caswell, John Gilbert and others to communicate with me.I am trying to extend all lines of this family.
My land address is:
Jim Osborne
5601 W. Berenice
Chicago, Illinois 60618
I may be reached through my sister's e-mail address: [email protected] if a genealogy family name is included in the subject line.
There are multiple ties between my lineage and the Japser family. Many are also my Combest cousins. The Hammond family in Pulaski and Casey Counties, Kentucky is also a key allied family to study for me since they married into both the Osborn and Combest lines. Have you ever been to Mintonville, Kentucky and seen the burial site of Dora I. Minton and her husband or the Green River Knob?
Best Wishes from your new found cousin,
Jim Osborne
